The Community Developers Council (CDC) of the Greater Houston Builders Association serves the residential development industry in the Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend and Brazoria County area. The Council is active at the state, county and municipal levels monitoring legislation, regulations and ordinances that affect the development community. The Council is often proactive in reviewing and offering input to various government entities on specific issues.
In 2005, the Community Developers Council worked with the HREC on a wide range of initiatives. Some of their accomplishments include improving development procedures such as street acceptance, landscaping in right-of-ways, paving geometrics and sub-grade. In addition, an online plan processing and street acceptance program was implemented in Harris County and the use of 4” roll-over curbs was approved within the City of Houston. The CDC was also active in improving flood control policies, procedures and criteria manual. In Pearland, the CDC effectively lobbied to stop a proposal for implementation of a road impact fee. Members of the council were the driving force in securing a change in state law to curb water district abuses of CCN (certificates of convenience and necessity) authority, and worked closely with CenterPoint Energy to implement their new “joint trench program”. |
